David Moyes: Real Sociedad sack former Man Utd manager

Former Everton boss David Moyes has been sacked by Real Sociedad. The Blues boss has been dismissed from his role as manager at the San Sebastian club only a day before he would have celebrated his first anniversary. It comes after the club's 2-0 defeat away at lowly Las Palmas on Friday, their fourth loss in five league games.

Moyes had initially managed some promising performances at the Anoeta stadium, including a 1-0 win over Barcelona last season. The 52-year-old, who spent 11 years at Goodison and helped the Blues to a fourth place Premier League finish in 2005, steered the Basque team to 12th spot last term.

But La Real are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference, and club president Jokin Aperribay told him his services were no longer required in a face to face meeting this afternoon.  Moyes left Everton in May 2013 to take over at Manchester United, succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, but was sacked by the Red Devils following a defeat to his former club in April 2014.

The Guardian's La Liga expert Sid Lowe believes Moyes was the right manager but in the wrong place at the Anoeta. 'La Real wanted Moyes to bring something British with him,' he writes. '“Can we play a ‘British’ style? I hope so. I want to play fast, the ball moving, energy. 'But if you can’t, you change. I may think differently in six months,” he said.

It is not clear that he does think any differently. 'A year later he is set to leave; how much of Spain has he taken with him? How much of the British style has he left behind? How much did they let him leave?

Could his time in Spain be summed up right there: the right manager in the wrong place?' Moyes has already been linked with possible future vacancies at Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, while his name is often in the frame for a role at a club he represented as a player, Glasgow Celtic.
