A pilot has died after crashing his plane while practicing for the New York Air Show. The plane crashed at about 2pm near Stewart International Airport in New Windsor in Orange County, a county official told ABC News. It follows the crash at an airshow in Shoreham, England, on Sunday which left at least 11 people dead.

The Shoreham crash has raised fresh questions in the UK over safety at Air show events. A county official confirmed that there was a plane crash and that the pilot was killed. A witness reportedly saw the tail breaking off the plane.

Photographer Benjamin Granucci tweeted: "What I saw was the aircraft come in for a dive. "As it pulled up it suddenly crossed the crowd line and spun towards the ground.
