Of the many stats we get from our friends at Opta, a player's chance creation is perhaps the most revealing.
It's a pretty simple premise - the number of goalscoring opportunities a player has created for his team mates - and acts as a very good indication of how well any creative, attacking midfield player is doing his job.
So, the top five for the 2015/16 Premier League season so far makes very interesting reading.
It's extremely early in the season, of course, but the fact four of the Premier League's finest footballers feature proves that this is a genuinely good measure of quality.
In fifth place, we have Eden Hazard (9 chances created)…
In fourth, David Silva (10 chances created)…
In joint second, both Santi Cazorla…
…and Mesut Ozil (both with 12 chances created)
And top of the pile? The only player to so far "out-create" the Premier League's finest attacking midfielders?
Swansea City's Jonjo Shelvey, with 13 chances created.
Bet you didn't see that coming, did you?
