These Three Irish Sisters Just Gave Birth at The Same Hospital on The Same Day

Hospital staff said they'd never witnessed anything like this before.Three sisters all gave birth on Tuesday at the same hospital in Ireland, an event that the Irish press is calling “incredible and rare.”
“We just never realized it would all happen on the one day,” Mairéad Fitzpatrick, one of the sisters, told RTÉ Ireland.

Fitzpatrick gave birth to her son, Thomas Óg, at 3.25 a.m. on Tuesday; doctors delivered her sister Joeline Godfrey’s daughter, Sorcha, just before noon. Nine and a half hours later another sister, Bernie Ward, had her third child, Phelim.

“The two girls that delivered my little boy delivered Bernie’s boy as well … so two women delivered two cousins in 24 hours,” Fitzpatrick said.

Staff at Mayo General Hospital, in Castlebar, County Mayo, said they had never before witnessed multiple simultaneous maternity ward bookings from the same family.

However, the day could have been even more remarkable — a fourth sister, Christina, is expected to give birth any day now. Her child was due on Aug. 30. Mary Salmon, manager of the maternity hospital at Mayo General, told RTE: “We have four sisters in and it’s never happened, as far as we know, going back some time.

“We’re just delighted everything has gone well.  It’s a great news story.”

Ms Fitzpatrick told the channel: “There’s four girls, five of us altogether in the house, and one brother.
