Lamar Odom was found unconscious on the floor of Las Vegas Brothel

Lamar Odom, former NBA star and ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian, was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital after he was found unresponsive in a Nevada brothel on Oct. 13, 2015. Lamar Odom was found unconscious on the floor of his room at the Love Ranch in Las Vegas. He reportedly spent four days there, partying with girls and taking a herbal substitute for Viagra.

Odom is currently clinging to life at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center in Las Vegas with his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian and former teammate Kobe Bryant both by his side.

The former NBA star suffered a "medical emergency" at the Love Ranch in Crystal, a town about 70 miles outside of Las Vegas. Medics stabilised him at the scene and an air ambulance was scrambled to fly the 35-year-old to hospital. But the 6ft 10in former Los Angeles Laker was too tall to fit inside the helicopter.

Instead, an ambulance took him by road to the Desert View Hospital in nearby Pahrump. He was later transferred by road to a Las Vegas hospital. Khloe Kardashian, her mother Kris Jenner, NBA star Kobe Bryant and Rev Jesse Jackson are among those who have flown to Odom's bedside.

After visiting him on Wednesday morning, Mr Jackson said Odom was on life support. He said doctors thought the NBA star’s condition was improving, However, TMZ reports that an MRI scan showed Odom had multiple strokes. He is also said to remain unresponsive and to be on dialysis for kidney failure.

Two women found Odom face down and unconscious in a VIP suite at the Love Ranch on Tuesday afternoon. When they turned him over, "terrible stuff" came out of his nose and mouth, said Dennis Hof, who owns the legal brothel. Mr Hof said the former athlete had drunk some cognac and taken herbal viagra since arriving at the brothel. He said he was unaware whether Odom had used any other drugs. The father-of-two had reportedly been at the brothel since Saturday.

Odom's celebrity status grew considerably when his whirlwind engagement to Khloe Kardashian and lavish wedding ceremony were filmed for a reality TV show in 2009. Khloe, the younger sister of Kim Kardashian, filed for divorce in 2013 citing irreconcilable differences.

His NBA career was troubled, and in the 2000-01 season he was suspended after violating its anti-drug policy twice. He also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks during 14 seasons.

Odom was raised by his grandmother after his mother died of cancer when he was 12 years old. His father was a drug addict. In 2006, his six-month-old son Jayden died from sudden infant death syndrome as he slept in his cot in New York. From a promising basketball player in Queens to an NBA star, take a look back at the ups and downs of his life and career.
