Snake with 'head the size of a fist' disguises itself as a Petrol Pump

A man stopping to fill up his petrol tank got the surprise of his life last week when a two to three-metre long carpet snake reared its head from behind the pump. Adzy Heist was driving by the Sydney Airport when he stopped to refuel at a Shell petrol station and noticed something odd about the petrol station’s pump.

‘I thought no, that’s not possible,’ Mr Heist said as he took a closer look and discovered a large carpet snake with a head the size of his fist trying to blend in with the long black hose of the pump. Since carpet snakes are not venomous, Mr Heist said it wasn’t the encounter wasn’t ‘skin off anyone’s back.’
The warmer weather has woken up snakes from their winter hibernation. NSW Ambulance paramedics have urged people to be on the lookout for snakes as they come out of their hiding spots to bask in the sun.
