A terrified mum, Samantha Frampton, 24, found a nest of unhatched eggs from the world's deadliest spider - and now she's scared her home may be infested. She opened the fruit and saw evidence of the Brazilian Wandering Spider - whose deadly venom not only kills but can give men a four-hour erection.
Samantha quickly wrapped the bananas in a plastic bag and left them outside, but is now living in fear that her house may be infested. The Brazilian Wandering Spider's venom is currently being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatments - as it can give male victims a painful four-hour erection.
Mother-of-two Samantha from Barnstaple, Devon, said: "I was about to hand my Son a banana and I noticed what first looked like a small cocoon - it looked like a silver, sealed web with leave on it. "I hate spiders anyway, but when I started seeing pictures of the webs and comparing the banana to some of those images I started to panic. "I immediately wrapped the banana in a carrier bag and put it outside - I just don't know what to do. "I'm in such a state of panic. "I just knew I had to get it out of my house and away from my sons." "I'm just so angry, absolutely fuming and so unbelievably terrified."
Brazilian Wandering Spiders are mainly active during the night and hunt on the jungle floor. But during the day they hide inside banana plants hence the nickname 'banana spider'.
A spokesman for the Iceland store in Barnstaple said the matter had been sent to Iceland's head office but declined to comment further.
