THIS IS 2015: Ogun Police Confirm Arrest Of Blogger over Slander. NIGERIANS wake Up.

The Ogun State Police Command, Monday, confirmed the arrest of a blogger, Emmanuel Ojo for accusing the wife of the state governor, Mrs Olufunsho Amosun of allegedly laundering $300,000 in London. Ojo reportedly  post a blog recently that Mrs Amosun, allegedly questioned by London Metropolitan police over money laundering. Ogun state governor,s called the Police to arrest Mr. Ojo for defamation and slander. How is that happened? why not her LAWYER? This is Defamation is under Tort.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, also confirmed the arrest on the telephone, said Ojo is being detained at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for questioning. Nigerians when are you going to wake up? Police detained Known citizen over the complaint from Ogun state Governor's wife, Who is Ogun state Governor's wife Known Citizen as well, If the the woman in question believe the allegation is no substance, then she can sue Mr Emmanuel Ojo for defamation of Character.
In order to sue for defamation of character, it's not enough that somebody express or publish a defamatory statement. There must also be real damage caused by the statement and you must come up with evidences to prove Mr. Ojo is Slanderous. In law all this Civil, this has got nothing to do with Police Authority.

Defamation of character occurs when someone makes a false statement about you that causes you some type of harm. The statement must be published (meaning some third party must have heard it), false, and it must result in harm, usually to the reputation. Those essential components of a defamation claim are fairly straightforward. But what kinds of harm can result from a defamatory statement, and can you recover damages for those harms in a lawsuit?

Please can someone in their right sense tell us where introduction of police detention comes into this allegation, which area is police business in this matter?

Let us clarify the issue defamation in a better atmosphere, the defamer in a criminal libel case could, in theory, be sent to prison but the law on this matter is considered a relic and so is more likely to be used by private rather than public prosecutors at the present. Why Because Mr.Ojo is not inciting uprising.
To outline the differences, in a civil court then the claimant in the case (Mrs Amosun ) will be awarded compensation for the damage to her reputation. In a criminal court, the libel must be seen to have the potential of leading to some breach of the peace via the publication of a defamatory statement. To explain this rationale further, one example could be an instance where the defamed person becomes so angered by this publication that there are further repercussions other than this person feeling that their reputation has been attacked. The argument here is that it is dangerous for Federal government of Nigeria to allow Police in exercising their power in the issue of derogatory and slander ; especially in light of regimes like Nigeria where leaders oppress their peoples on  a daily basis with laws preventing free speech and attacking those who dissent from this. This is one of the yardstick to use if current Set of Politicians are here to change anything in the first place.

When are you leaders going to protect us? I mean  people who cast their vote for your support, let us be realistic here; if there is law that empower the police to arrest citizen for defamatory, does it mean the law works for rich and famous in the land? what about poor people?

Mrs Amosun, if you have evidence(s) to counter Mr Ojo's allegation, why not pursue libel through your Legal teams? why police Brutality and Harassment? WHY Hiding behind Police???
