Wish your nan was as cool as this? 87-year old Baddie Winkle is an internet star

WHILE most 87-year-olds struggle to get out much, one US pensioner is fast becoming one of the biggest stars on social media.

Baddie Winkle, a great grandmother whose real name is Helen Ruth Van Winkle, has befriended the likes of Miley Cyrus, Nicole Richie and Rihanna through her amazing social media posts. Her incredible outfits include a sweatshirt with giant pictures of Justin Bieber, huge gold chains and various beanie hats.

But Helen only became her alter-ego Baddie after she lost her husband and son, she told website refinery29: “You don’t know what’s going to happen to you. I blamed God forever. I cried all the time because I couldn’t come to terms with it, so I made myself over into Baddie Winkle.

“One day, I was laying out in the sun, and I put on some tie-dyed shirt and a pair of cutoff shorts of my great-granddaughter Kennedy’s.

“She came home and said, ‘Oh, Granny, you look so cute! Let me take a pic of you.” Since that first Instagram post Baddie now has 1.1 million followers on her account.

Among those followers are Rihanna and Nicole Richie and the pensioner hung out with Miley Cyrus at last week’s MTV VMAs.

She added: 'Baddie Winkle has helped me a lot - in spirit, anyway. The lessons that I have learned is live and let live

“'I would love to be a role model for older people. You're only here once in your lifetime, so have fun."
